5120 Beginning Wood

Recommended Preparation: None

Grade Level: 9-12


This beginning level class deals with fundamentals of woodworking and learning the operation of basic woodworking machines. SAFE OPERATION of machinery and tools is strongly emphasized. Students will learn design, construction, and finishing of projects. First quarter students must complete a required project. Second quarter students will be able to design and construct assigned projects of their choice, subject to instructor's approval. A materials fee is requested (covers abrasives, adhesives and finishing materials). A notebook will be required and turned in for a grade by each student.


UC/CSU Requirement:  Does not satisfy UC/CSU college entrance requirements.

 

5130 Advanced Wood

Recommended Preparation: Beginning Wood

Grade Level: 10-12


This course gives students instruction and experience in the design of basic cabinet making and refinishing or finishing of fine furniture. May be taken a second year. A materials fee is requested (covers abrasives, adhesives and finishing materials). Students will be responsible for planning and designing projects. Students will acquire vocational woodworking skills that can be applied to on-the-job training. A notebook is required and will be turned in for a grade by the teacher.
