5050 Computer Literacy

Recommended Preparation: None.
Grade Level: 9-12
Semester Course: Partnered with Health

Computer Literacy Curriculum/Standards/Syllabus Locker

This course is designed to teach students how to appropriately use current/ approach future technologies in a rapidly changing world. The class will be based almost completely online, utilizing Web 2.0 technologies.  

Students will:

  • Master the ability to properly search the internet and deduce accuracy of websites.
  • Maintain privacy online through strong passwords, application settings, and displaying selective personal information.
  • Master the ability to research, take digital notes, and legally cite sources.
  • Master the use of School Loop Tools and Google Tools.  
  • Improve writing abilities (especially paraphrasing) through weekly Blogging exercises and master “Netiquette” through online discussions.  
  • Improve typing ability through an online typing program that will allow students to work away from the classroom.  

UC/CSU Requirement:  Does not satisfy UC/CSU college entrance requirements.


5984  Technology Assistant

Recommended Preparation: 

  • 9th graders may challenge the Computer Literacy course by meeting with instructors to present their "digital footprint" and demonstrate computer skills. View: curriculum page.
  • 10-12th graders who Previously passed Computer Literacy with a B or greater.
  • Bilingual students who speak both Spanish and English are needed in great demand.

Grade Level:  10-12 (9 if challenging Computer Literacy)

This course is a “Teaching” position.  Technology Assistants will circulate through the computer lab, helping freshmen students work through and complete the Computer Literacy curriculum.

Technology Assistants receive “Applied Art” credit, and a college letter of recommendation. 

Additionally, Technology Assistants work with instructors to “Test Out” new technologies before they become a part of the Computer Literacy curriculum.

UC/CSU Requirement:   Does not satisfy UC/CSU college entrance requirements.


5988 Web Page Design

Recommended Preparation: Successful completion of Computer Literacy
NOTE: Web Page Design is designed to work in conjunction with the ROP Computer Graphic Design & ROP Video Production courses. Students may choose to take this course before or after the ROP courses.
Grade Level:  10-12

This course is designed to teach students how to create online content using Web 2.0 technologies.   It is intended to help school/community leaders publicize the work their group(s) are completing.

Students will:

  • Learn basic HTML coding.
  • Create content (both text & multimedia), add content, and maintain the student areas of the AHS website.
  • Create content (both text & multimedia), add content, and maintain collaborative websites known as Wikis.
  • Administrate Social Networks
  • Create a YouTube channel
  • Maintain privacy online through strong passwords, application settings, and displaying selective personal information.
  • Master the ability to find and legally cite sources.
  • Improve writing abilities (especially paraphrasing) through weekly Blogging exercises and master “Netiquette” through online discussions.
