This course introduces students to the major elements of theatre arts, including basic acting techniques and theater games, the history and structure of drama, and an overview of the technical aspects of theatre. Students will improve their abilities in speech and communications, teamwork, self-expression, and creativity, all in a non-threatening environment. Assignments range from scene work to puppet making, observations of professional actors to writing and performing original dramatic pieces based on students' own experiences. Optional performance opportunity in Fall or Spring Actor's Showcase. Class participation is mandatory.
6220 Theater Arts 2

This course is designed for intermediate and advanced actors, writers, and directors. An overview of all aspects of theatre arts will be provided with an emphasis on acting techniques (including improvisation, character development, scene study, monologues, script analysis) and writing and directing. Performance opportunities optional Fall/Spring Actors Showcase; class participation mandatory.

6230 Drama Production
Recommended Preparation: Theater Arts 1 or higher or Instructor permission
Grade Level: 10-12
This class produces a full-scale drama or comedy in the fall semester. Actors and technicians gain hands-on experience in every aspect of production, from behind-the-scenes to performance on stage. Students are required to attend after school/evening rehearsals and provide their own costumes. Work on a production crew and class participation are mandatory. A materials fee is requested.

Recommended Preparation: Audition/Instructor permission
Grade Level: 9-12
Offered spring semester only, this class produces a full-length BROADWAY musical including dancing, acting, singing, and technical work. Course work includes set design, character study, and final project. Students are selected by audition in late December. Students are expected to provide their own costumes and attend after school and evening rehearsals. Work on a production crew and class participation are mandatory. A material fee is requested.
