Counseling Updates during school closure

March 27, 2020

Dear Mariner Students & Parent/Guardians:

The counselors are available for you! We are still working regular school hours Monday through Friday, excluding designated holidays (Spring Break 3/30-4/3). We are available via PVUSD email or Synergy mail. Email your counselor directly with your questions and be sure to check your email daily. Please allow a 24-hour response time.

And, there are even more resources available to you! If you have questions in specific areas, please contact the appropriate resource:

  • ACCESS & College/Career Center = Mr. Castillo or Ms. Alcibar or

  • Scholarships/Financial Aid = Ms. Morasca

  • CTE courses, career info, Cabrillo courses at AHS = Ms. Solis-Maldonado

Seniors: Please continue to check your college and financial aid portals. Contact campuses directly for all UC, CSU, Private colleges, and community college (including Cabrillo College) questions or concerns. Make it a practice to check your portals and emails daily.

Q: How do students and parents/guardians make an appointment with a student's counselor?
A: During the school closure, online appointments are available via Google Meet. Please use the Form to request an appointment.

Department Overview

The professional practice of the AHS Counseling Department reflects Aptos High School's Goals. Information for students and families is provided by classroom presentations, student conferences, evening events, and more. Aptos High School Counselors collaborate with students and families with focus and intention to support student success and well-being.

The school counseling team delivers a comprehensive, data-driven program for all students to gain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for academic success, career exploration, and personal development. The school counseling department partners with other educators and stakeholders to advocate for equity, access, and success for all students. 

Aptos High School Counseling Program Basics

  • Develop courses of study based on student post-high school goals with an emphasis on college and career.
  • Monitor progress toward graduation and provide intervention meetings for students and families as needed.
  • Assistance and advocacy with college and career exploration, planning, applications and financial aid using Naviance.
